In Her Pursuit for Gender Equality

The panellists were Liz Bradford COO HSBC, Kate Thorely, CEO Wilson Parking, Gina McNamara, CFO, SAP, Yvonne Howie, Director, The CEO Institute and Alexandra Tselios, CEO, The Big Smoke and Camilla Thompson facilitated the discussion. The conversation was robust, inspiring and uplifting and had clarity in its message. That message was gender parity is a non-negotiable and if we don’t look at quotas as a way in which to reach gender equality we will not see equality until 2080. It was so refreshing to hear such intelligent, thoughtful perspectives from women with esteemed careers matched with a social conscience. The business case for diversity was also looked at and the human skills that women bring to the equation was discussed as essential for business success in a future. Each of the panelists brought something different to the conversation and what was evident is that they are using their position to make change and take action.

International Women’s Day is always an important date in The Symes Group Calendar and this year was no exception. I had the pleasure of attending The Launch of ‘In Her Pursuit’ headed up by Kathryn Sforcina and Anthony McIlwain. The mission is simple – the pursuit of gender parity and equality. This of course is aligned with Symes Group and what a wonderful evening it was and a spectacular way to celebrate International Women’s Day.

Gina McNamara, CFO, SAP said of the event. “It was such an eclectic mix of incredible and authentic women all striving towards a common goal of leaving no woman behind through less talk and more action. I’ve been to a lot of networking events and this one had a huge point of difference whereby not only was it thought provoking but it is run by a company which is making steps to turn the words into action”.

Happy International Women’s Day to all and with the Women in the room of The ‘In Her Pursuit’ Event, the future is bright because it is clear that they are turning words in to action and action into change.
